Mr. Fine established his own EC competition law practice in Brussels in June, 2004. In the previous 17 years, he was a full-time competition law practitioner in the Brussels offices of international law firms. In his most recent position, Mr. Fine was the senior member of the EC and Competition Unit of Dibb Lupton Alsop, a major international law firm based in London, where he was a partner of the firm's Brussels office for six years.

Global and EU Competition in 2010

The incoming Competition Commissioner, Joaquin Almunia, who takes office as from February 2010, has been the Commission’s Economic Affairs Commissioner. Companies can probably expect more vigorous EU competition law enforcement from Mr. Almunia, in particular, involving abuses of dominant position, vertical restraints and issues involving the antitrust/IP interface (e.g. refusals to license, discriminatory licensing etc.)
