Doctors Jailed for Medicare Fraud

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has announced that Alpha Solutions Inc (Alpha) medical doctor Dahlia Kirkpatrick and Alpha owner and operator Emmanuel Komandu have been sentenced to 48 and 38 months respectively in prison for their involvement in a health care fraud scheme. Mr Komandu and Ms Kirkpatrick, on behalf of Alpha, allegedly submitted about US$775,019 in fraudulent claims to Medicare, the majority of which were for prescriptions of unnecessary durable medical equipment such as power wheelchairs, wheelchair accessories and feeding nutrients. In addition to the jail sentence, the defendants have been ordered to pay US$302,811 in restitution costs.
