Telco To Appeal High Court Copyright Ruling
28 January 2011
The Australian reports that telecommunications company “Telstra has applied for leave to appeal to the High Court against a ruling that its Sensis directories are not protected by copyright law”. The Federal Court reportedly found that computer-generated data is not protected by copyright as it is not the work of a human author. Reportedly, according to DLA Phillips Fox partner Scott Buchanan, the ruling “could affect TV guides, newspapers that have listings of classifieds and real estate sites”.
